Designmd.supply - service for preparing DESIGN.md - 2026
designmd.supply is a free open-source service for automatic generation of DESIGN.md — a structured design description of a website, intended for use by AI agents during interface development.
Overview
The service was built by the Context.dev team and published as an open-source project on GitHub (context-dot-dev/designmd-supply). It is written in Next.js (TypeScript).
The user enters a website URL, and the service collects brand identity, screenshots, HTML/CSS tokens, and compiles them into a DESIGN.md file following the Google specification (YAML frontmatter + canonical sections).
How it works
The pipeline consists of four stages:
- Style extraction (colors, typography, spacing, radii, components) — via Context.dev Styleguide API
- Brand intelligence (logos, backdrops, slogan, industry classification) — via Brand API
- Live screenshot of the page — via Screenshot API
- Assembly — final DESIGN.md generation
Generation takes approximately one minute for new domains.
DESIGN.md structure
The output file contains YAML frontmatter and the following sections:
- Overview — general design description
- Colors — color palette (primary, secondary, accent)
- Typography — fonts, sizes, line heights
- Layout — grid, spacing, containers
- Elevation — shadows, z-index
- Shapes — border-radius values
- Components — buttons, cards, navbars, etc.
- Do's and Don'ts — usage guidelines

The DESIGN.md file can be used as context in:

Instead of writing a long prompt describing the visual style, the developer simply adds DESIGN.md to the project, and the AI agent automatically follows the design system.
